Why Twig instead of smarty?

Hi,

I don’t want to declare a fight or big debate. I’m just curious to know, if somoene know, why Grav CMS choose twig over smarty for template engine ?

I want to precise that I have no opinion about this because I don’t know enough on this subject.

I like Twig better than Smarty. Also Twig is used by Symfony framework, Drupal 8, October CMS, Bolt CMS, and many others. Really its the most popular and well supported templating solution for PHP.

P.S.: Out of subject, but I’m using Grav since last wednesday, and I totally like it ! It’s very motivating to use Grav!
