Just Diving Into the World of Flat-File CMS!

Hey everyone!

I’ve recently started exploring flat-file CMS options and wow, what a game changer. I was just tired of the usual database setups, you know? I wanted something lightweight and less complex for my little personal blog. So, I stumbled upon this whole new world of flat-file systems, and I gotta say, I’m loving it so far!

I spent last weekend setting it up and honestly, it was a breeze. The whole structure makes it feel super simple. Like, I just edit Markdown files directly, and it updates my site instantly. No more waiting around for a database to refresh! I even gave it a custom theme (which I took way too long to pick, lol).

The best part? I can just pop my files on any server and it all works. No fuss! I remember last year struggling with a more traditional CMS, needing to deal with hosting issues and all that jazz. It was such a headache.

Now, I can focus more on what I actually want to write about – which is basically anything and everything under the sun. :sun_with_face: I’m even thinking of branching into some tech tutorials since I’ve been dabbling in coding lately.

So, just wanted to share my excitement and see if anyone else here has made the switch or is thinking about it. I’d love to hear your experiences or tips! What were your first steps? Any cool themes or plugins you recommend?

Looking forward to hearing from you all! Cheers!

I find it brilliantly simple - including backing stuff up. I still have some zip files of MySQL backups of wordpress sites that I don’t have the courage to unpack - with GRAV you just download the whole user folder, then drop it into a new install if you need to get the same site up and running again! I’d also say that I generally use the paid plugins - Typhoon as a theme, and stuff like the lightbox gallery or SEO Magic. They make my life much easier, but it depends on size and budget of projects. Enjoy!
